The Kului’ula Folly
October 5, 2011
Direct Transfers recognizes that timeshares are going down the hole these days. An entire industry circling the drain, they’re spending more and more time trying to convince consumers to buy in at the last minute than figuring out why they’re losing all their sales.
Take, for example, the pristine Kukui’ula. This development on the south shores of Maui is the perfect spot for a paradise. With some of the most coveted real estate in the world, Kukui’ula should be selling their cottages and vacation homes as quickly as they can make them.
With prices in the $1,000,000 range, it certainly isn’t out of sight for many, especially the wealthy population that flocks to Maui every month. Yet at this point, they’ve only sold a sliver of their expectations, and attribute the flop to the bad economy.
At Direct Transfers, we think it’s more than a bad economy. We have a hunch that Kului’ula wouldn’t be going like hotcakes even if the economy was good. It isn’t the price barrier – one million is a lot, but it’s no secret that many Americans could afford this. And it isn’t the quality – there’s no argument that Kului’ula is the best in environment and service.
It’s the monthly $1,000 club dues that are shooting Kului’ula in the foot.
That’s right – after owners shell out millions to purchase a home or vacation there, they have to continue paying and paying – no matter what. These days, even some celebrities are hesitant to sign up for a $1,000 monthly bill! What’s sad is that this practice isn’t restricted to one company – there are hundreds all over the world charging exorbitant and arbitrary fees every day.
There are still some people on the planet rich enough not to care about how much they spend, but for the majority of us, it’s a fairly important aspect of budgeting. When the average American can afford to spend $1,000 a month for the privilege of vacationing somewhere, or has a remote interest in it, that’s when timeshares will succeed. Until then, they’re a waste of time and space.
Americans have had it with steep monthly bills. They’ve had it with ridiculous fees to keep their membership. That’s why timeshare companies are struggling, it’s why Kului’ula is struggling, and it’s why Direct Transfers is in business.
We’re not just here to talk about timeshares. We’re here to get you out of yours. If you’re ready to end the timeshare nightmare, call us today for your own escape plan.
